AI for Cybersecurity is a hot new thing

AI for Cybersecurity is a hot new thing
Number of companies boasting about how they are using machine learning and artificial intelligence to help make the world a safer place.
But some experts worry vendors aren’t paying enough attention to the risks associated with relying heavily on these technologies. “What’s happening is a little concerning, and in some cases even dangerous,” warns Raffael Marty of security firm Forcepoint. The security industry’s hunger for algorithms is understandable. It’s facing a tsunami of cyberattacks just as the number of devices being hooked up to the internet is exploding. At the same time, there’s a massive shortage of skilled cyber workers (see “Cybersecurity’s insidious new threat: workforce stress”). Using machine learning and AI to help automate threat detection and response can ease the burden on employees, and potentially help identify threats more efficiently than other software-driven approaches. Best Ransomware Virus Protection

Best Ransomware Virus Protection
Ransomware may not make the headlines in the same way it did a few years ago, but it's still a significant threat to all your most important files, so it's vital to keep your system protected. Bitdefender has a free standalone anti-ransomware tool, but it's strictly limited to protecting you from a few ransomware families only (CTB-Locker, Locky, Petya, TeslaCrypt), and is likely to be ineffective with anything else. The company does provide capable multi-layered ransomware protection in all its Windows and Mac software, though, and in this review, we’re going to take a look at how it performs. We'll be testing said ransomware protection system with a copy of Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2019. This may look a little expensive at £24.99 ($33) for year one, £39.99 ($53) on renewal, but that gets you extensive malware protection as well, and covers you for up to three devices. News From Microsoft :Windows 10 continues to grow up

News From Microsoft :Windows 10 continues to grow up
Windows 10 is continuing to make solid strides in terms of attracting new users away from Windows 7, according to two sets of commonly used statistics. These stats do slightly differ from one another, with one now putting the new OS in the lead, while the other indicates that it’s still lagging behind Windows 7. Netmarketshare is the stat-crunching firm which still believes Windows 10 is behind, but in figures for July the operating system grew by an impressive 0.87%, reaching a total market share of 36.58%. That’s still behind Windows 7 on 41.23%, although the old OS shed 0.51% of its users, so the gap is certainly closing. StatCounter has Windows 10 in the lead for July, with it managing to gain a solid 0.5% moving it up to 47.25%. Windows 7 went in the other direction, dropping 0.57% down to 39.06%. So going by this analytics firm, Windows 10 has a larger lead over the older OS, than the latter does over the former according to Netm…

Google Ready For A New App "The Google Camera app "

Google Ready For A New App "The Google Camera app "
The camera app that Google puts on its Pixel phones is one of the best in the business, and now it looks like that same Google camera app is heading to Chrome OS too – it's appeared in the developer channel of the software for the Pixelbook and may well start showing up on other Chromebooks as well.

A shortcut to the new camera app was spotted alongside the old camera app by some users running the dev channel of Chrome OS on their devices. For the time being, the new app only seems to launch properly on the Pixelbook, so there's still work to do. Among the features available in the Google Camera app are support for HDR images, a portrait mode, and Motion Photos (where a little snippet of video is taken with each picture). Whether or not some or all of these features will make it over remains to be seen, but better photos should be the end result.

Google Maps New Updates

Google Maps New Updates
Google introduced a new update to Google Maps: when you zoom all the way out, the Earth will no longer be displayed as a flat surface, but as a globe. It’s a change that allows the map to more accurately display the Earth. The search company highlighted the change on its Google MapsTwitter feed, saying that with the new 3D Globe Mode, “Greenland’s projection is no longer the size of Africa.” The change is only available on the desktop interface; it’s still flat in its mobile app.
Google Maps has used Mercator projection, which projects the planet onto a flat surface. While this style makes it easy to print onto maps and has largely become standardized, it presents a distorted image of the Earth. Objects around the equator are to scale relative to one another, while objects closer to the poles appear larger than they really are. A good example of this is the relative sizes of Greenland and Africa. On a Mercator map, Greenland appears larger than Africa, when in rea…

WhatsApp Working on Picture-in-Picture Mode
One of the most popular instant messaging platforms in the world WhatsApp is working on a much anticipated “picture-in-picture mode” for Android platform. The feature, once rolled out, will allow users to continue the video call on a minimised screen while browsing through the rest of their conversation. According to WABetaInfo, a fan site that tests new WhatsApp features early, the messaging app has recently submitted a new update through the “Google Play Beta Program”, bringing the version up to 2.18.234. “WhatsApp is working very hard for past many months in order to add this feature, adding new improvements in the next updates. After implementing the feature on WhatsApp for iOS, we can finally affirm it will be possible, in the next updates, to view YouTube and Instagram videos in WhatsApp, using the Picture-in-Picture mode,” WABetaInfo reported late on Thursday. “For this reason, it’s ok if you have updated your WhatsApp version and it’s not…
